Director of Information Technology

The Town of Sharon is accepting applications for the full-time (37.5 hours/week) position of Director of Information Technology (“IT Director”). The successful candidate, a key member of the Town’s executive leadership team, will be responsible for the vision, leadership and overall success of Sharon’s town-wide information technology environment.

The Information Technology Department maintains and supports technology hardware, software, services, and systems to all town offices and departments, including public safety. The Department also supports and maintains accessibility of the Town's financial applications to the Sharon Public Schools. The Department services all technology systems, and requests from all town departments with approximately 125 users. The Department is also responsible for ensuring the connectivity of the fiber network between municipal facilities.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Administer a comprehensive information technology program for the Town of Sharon. Plan direct and control information technology programs; coordinate long and short-term strategic planning with town officials, aimed at standardizing and improving hardware, software and data communications programs in the town.
  • Develop information technology goals and priorities in consultation with the Town Administrator, Finance Director and representatives of various town departments. Assist various town officials and managers in defining their management information needs, organizing priorities, and identifying the impact of contemplated technology applications on the efficiency and effectiveness of operations. Provide technical advice to all town department heads and elected/appointed officials on a wide variety of issues and problems to meet each department’s regulatory, statutory and management requirements.
  • Prioritize and assign the work of employees; orient and train department personnel; evaluate work performance and initiate appropriate personnel actions. Develop and oversee the department’s capital and operating budgets and administer expenditures.
  • Follow all applicable state and local procurement regulations to acquire hardware, software and communications equipment. Negotiate personal service contracts for consultants; and establish and monitor performance standards for such services.
  • Review, update and maintain cyber security plans/safeguarding of data.
  • Implement townwide training programs to educate employees on cyber security, shared software and other applications as appropriate.

Qualifications and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field, with a preferred minimum of five (5) years progressively responsible management, administrative and technical experience, preferably in a municipal setting. Employee must be able to demonstrate extensive knowledge of network administration and various software application packages. Extensive knowledge of operating characteristics, capabilities and service requirements of information technology systems and equipment. In-depth knowledge of MUNIS, Windows Service, Network (including Wireless), DNS, DHCP, VMs and patching.

Starting Salary Range: $96,983 – $112,615 DOQ, with generous benefits, including health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, flexible spending accounts and retirement plans.
