Mechanic

The Town of Sharon is seeking qualified applicants for the full-time (40 hours/week) Mechanic position. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
 
  • Perform skilled mechanical work on municipal vehicles and equipment, including trucks, heavy machinery, emergency vehicles, and seasonal equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical issues using modern tools and equipment, and carry out efficient repairs.
  • Conduct routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and safety checks to ensure fleet readiness.
  • Maintain accurate service records and assist in inventory management of parts and supplies.
  • Respond to emergency repairs as needed, sometimes in the field.
  • Work during critical operations (e.g., snowstorms).
  • Collaborate with a supportive team that values safety, service, and craftsmanship.

Qualifications and Experience:         
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Massachusetts Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  • Valid Massachusetts Class 2A Hoisting Engineer’s License
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work in all weather conditions
  • Must pass a CORI background check and mandatory drug screening upon hire
  • Experience in automotive or heavy equipment repairs
  • Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical and mechanical systems
  • Ability to read technical manuals and scematics
  • Self-motivated, reliable and a proactive work ethic

Starting Salary:
$56,000, with annual increases and opportunities for overtime; and generous benefits, including health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, flexible spending accounts and retirement plans.
