Van Driver

Make a real impact in our community. We’re seeking a dependable, compassionate part-time (19 hours/week) Van Driver to provide safe, supportive transportation for elderly and disabled residents.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 
  • Transport elderly and disabled citizens in getting to and from medical appointments; assists passengers in getting in and out of vehicles by opening doors and providing physical assistance to those who request or need it; may assist by carrying packages to doorway; ensures that passengers safely enter their dwellings.
 
  • Operate a lift-equipped passenger van; operate manual and automatic wheelchair lift and mobile communication equipment; utilize vehicle cleaning equipment and hand tools. Monitors condition of vehicles including tires, gas, oil, and body; reports problems or deficiencies to supervisor; maintains cleanliness of vehicles at all times. Maintains daily log of mileage and other pertinent date including names of passengers, gas usage, hours of work, etc.

The current work hours for this position are Monday & Thursday 10:00 am – 2:00 pm, and Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday 8:30 am – 12:30 pm. These hours are subject to change based on the needs of the community.

Qualifications and Experience:         
  • High school graduate, or equivalent; experience in working with elderly persons desirable; 3 years’ experience operating manual/automatic lift and communications equipment; or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
 
  • Possession of a valid Massachusetts Driver's license required. Must have an excellent driving record and skill in driving a large van in all types of weather conditions.
 
  • Certification in CPR, First Aid, defibrillator and wheelchair securement. Medical/eye exam, CORI check and drug/alcohol testing required.
 
  • General knowledge of the town street system and community facilities is helpful. Expert knowledge in operating a passenger van with lift. Ability to interact with elderly and disabled persons in a positive and sensitive manner. Ability to perform duties with some latitude for individual judgment.

Starting Salary Range: $23.3452 – $23.8121/hour (full range to $27.8996/hour) with annual increases. This is a non-benefitted position.
