The Town of Sharon, a vibrant and engaged community committed to transparent and effective local government, is seeking a highly organized and dependable part-time Administrative Assistant to support the Zoning Board of Appeals.
This position may be particularly well suited for experienced administrative professionals seeking part-time work, retirees from municipal or legal fields, or individuals with strong organizational skills interested in supporting local government.
This position averages 25–40 hours per month. The Administrative Assistant must attend Wednesday evening meetings approximately twice per month (currently held virtually). With the exception of meeting attendance and preparation of minutes, much of the work may be completed on a flexible schedule.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist applicants and members of the public in navigating the Zoning Board of Appeals application and hearing process
Maintain and organize departmental records and property files
Upload and manage electronic documents and case materials
Prepare meeting materials and coordinate the scheduling of public hearings
Draft routine correspondence and simple decisions for Board review
Prepare and post meeting agendas in compliance with public meeting law
Coordinate and post legal notices for public hearings
Prepare and mail abutter notifications
Transcribe and prepare meeting minutes
Provide general administrative and clerical support to the Board
Preferred Background:
Associate’s degree in business administration, office management, or a related field
Experience in administrative work
Experience in a municipal or public-sector environment
The successful candidate will have excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while managing multiple deadlines. Professionalism, discretion, and the ability to interact effectively with Board members, residents, attorneys, engineers, and developers are essential.
Starting Salary Range: $25.68 – $26.19 per hour. This position does not include benefits.
