Senior Services Director

The Town of Sharon is seeking a dynamic individual with a passion for public service and a commitment to serving a diverse population to initiate, coordinate and implement services and programs for the citizens of Sharon older than age 55 and manage all aspects of a highly regarded and successful adult center.  The outstanding facility is an inviting space of more than 10,000 square feet within a 45,000 s.f. Community Center located on Lake Massapoag that includes program rooms, a library, kitchen, art gallery, and an outdoor patio.  The Town is located midway between Boston and Providence adjacent to Interstate 95.  CNN/Money Magazine has consistently rated the town of 18,000 +/- residents (more than 5,500 of whom are over age 55) as one of the best places to live in America in its annual survey, ranking #1 in 2013.

The preferred candidate must be self-motivated and directed; have the capacity to build trust and respect; demonstrate honesty, patience, and flexibility; and have the ability to work well as a team with town departments and volunteer boards. Requires excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership and counseling skills, as well as the ability to exercise independent judgment.

Duties include but are not limited to:  Supervise a paid staff of six, including office manager, program coordinator, social worker and transport drivers, and a significant number of volunteers; prepare and monitor department’s annual operating budget; provide and coordinate town-wide services for the elderly, disabled and their families; and act as a liaison to related boards and agencies. The Director of the Sharon Adult Center will work with the Council on Aging and an active and supportive Friends group, which raises money to supplement the budget for enhanced program opportunities. Qualifications and experience:  Bachelor’s Degree in related field and three to five years of progressively responsible experience in the development and/or administration of elder or human service programs and services. Candidate should have a comprehensive knowledge of gerontology and aging, budgeting and grant-writing skills, and experience in a leadership role in an organization serving a senior population. 

Salary Range:  $77,438 - $89,120 DOQ, with generous benefits, including health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, flexible spending accounts and retirement plans.
